Led Zeppelin played New York City on Sept. 3, 1971 and the crowd was wild! So wild they stormed the stage and it collapsed. This is a tape in which the crowd at times is louder than the band, but the show itself is amazing. This is a vastly underrated Zep show. Jimmy’s playing has an edge I’d not heard before.

We listen to the opening night (Sept 23, 1971) of Led Zeppelin’s first Japanese Tour, and it’s brilliant. They’re eager to show the audience why they’re the best band ever, and they succeed. We listen to a pristine Since I’ve Been Loving You, and a rapturous Whole Lotta Love with complete performances of Good Times, Bad Times, How Many More Times, You Shook Me, as well as tons of rock songs in the medley. It’s arguably the best Whole Lotta Love ever.

This is one of the very few soundboards we have of Led Zeppelin in 1971, and it’s a beauty. This show, from Aug 31, 1971 is a top ten on many fans’ lists, with good reason.

Episode 34 is up! Led Zeppelin in Copenhagen, May 3, 1971. This is an amazing show, in the Top 10 for sure, if just for the only performances (I think) of Four Sticks and Gallows Pole EVER. I also play Stairway because it’s a performance from before the release of Zep 4, and no one in the audience had heard that song before. Not the best recording, alas, but one of Zeppelin’s best shows. Wild and free. Enjoy.
