Sept. 19, 1970 – Evening Show

One of the best shows ever.

On Sept 19, 1970 Led Zeppelin played two shows at Madison Square Garden, in New York City. It was reported in the press that each member of the band earned $30,000 for less than six hours work. Good for them. They earned it because this show contains one of the hottest hours of live music I’ve ever heard.

Bonus Quarantine Episode

We listen to a soundboard recording of the late show of the Rolling Stones, 7/21/72 in Philadelphia. This is the legendary STP tour supporting Exile on Main Street, and it’s the Stones at their peak. Absolutely brilliant performances of Love in Vain, All Down The Line, Midnight Rambler, and Uptight/Satisfaction. Beautiful. Enjoy. Exile on Main Street may be my favorite album of all time. It’s definitely my favorite Stones album. I hope this helps get rid of the Corona Blues.

July 24, 1979 – Episode 54 Heart of Markness

The Press Were Not Kind

We revisit Led Zeppelin’s July 24, 1979 show in Copenhagen, DK, which we discussed in my very first episode. I play Celebration Day, Over The Hills, Since I’ve Been Loving You, and the retooled version of Whole Lotta Love. This is an intimate warm up gig for the Knebworth shows, and it’s an incredible performance.

You can listen to this entire show, including (imo) THE BEST performance of Ten Years Gone, for free right here: https://mega.nz/folder/OpkBHRQQ#3y5xP_bIkjoFrE3I1KdP-g

Ok, this one went off the rails. Neil Young with Booker T and the MG’s, July 3, 1993, Torhout, Belgium. Great audience/soundboard matrix recording. It gets silly. Neil and the band have a hard time with Helpless, and have to start over, and I just go berserk get all Dan Brown conspiracy crazy and decide all Neil’s songs have darker meaning. I laughed my ass off. I hope you do too. If nothing else the music is amazing. Booker T and the MG’s are solid as a rock behind Neil, and add some depth to the groove. Enjoy, friends. Mike Millard Master Recording

Hear the Call of the Night Bird

This is an excellent recording of Stevie Nicks on her 12 date Bella Donna tour. She’s in Los Angeles, at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on December 12, 1981. It’s great. She’s amazing as is her backing band.

The Heart of Markness Podcast

This is a great recording by Joe Maloney, of Bad Company on their first headlining tour. Paul Rodgers sounds amazing as do the rest of the band. We get not only a bunch of great Bad Co. songs, we get a Mott the Hoople song, as well as a Free song. A wonderful experience. Ep. 52 – The Princes Trust Rock Gala 1983

This is good. It’s not Led Zeppelin so it’s ok if you’re not interested, but this show (Sept 21, 1983) has some solid playing by a very nervous Jimmy Page. This is the night after the ARMS Concert and it’s the same show, but this night Charles and Diana were there for the Prince’s Trust Rock Gala… so that’s what it was called. This is Jimmy’s return to public performing after the loss of Zep, and Steve Winwood sang for him (Paul Rodgers would fill in when the tour reached the USA). He played 3 songs from Death Wish 2 and Stairway. He plays really well, especially given how shaky he was the night before, although Prelude is better on the 20th (imo). I like it. I hope you do too.

If you want to own this complete show, including the sets by Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck, and more…. you can download it right here: https://mega.nz/folder/j0kl3ZCI#WiyqrkwbbJFRnGv1XHtbYQ

Mike Millard Master Recording

This is a great short set by Thin Lizzy, opening for Kansas at the LA Forum on August 16, 1978. This is another JEMS release of a previously unreleased Mike Millard master tape. Insane sound quality of a great band on top of the world.

Thin Lizzy was touring in support of their Live and Dangerous album, although there is one song from their next album (at this point unreleased) Black Rose. I hope you enjoy it. You can download the entire Thin Lizzy set right here: https://mega.nz/folder/L99FmZ5S#w3T9pbbULM8OXmjCYwW9AA

4 Source Matrix Recording.

The definitive version of this legendary show.

The March 16, 1973 Led Zeppelin show is, arguably, the band at their musical peak. Nite Owl has done this show a solid by creating an AMAZING stereo matrix from 4 separate sources, making a great show with ok/good recordings into a great show with a great recording! The upgrade in sound is incredible. You can download this whole show right here: https://mega.nz/folder/mwdCWYSR#zJ08rmkSsLeht34EeAJtgw
